Terms of Service

Effective date: October 3, 2026 · Last updated: October 3, 2026

✦

Welcome to DMForge. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the DMForge website, applications and services (together, the "Service"). The Service is provided by DMForge LLC, a Virginia limited liability company ("DMForge", "we", "us" or "our").

By creating an account, or by accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms, our Privacy Policy and our Refund Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility and where we sell

  • You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are between 13 and the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
  • DMForge is offered to residents of the United States, and prices are in US dollars. We do not offer, market or support the Service outside the United States. If you sign up or pay from outside the United States, you do so on your own initiative and are responsible for complying with your local laws, and any taxes or fees your bank or card issuer charges.

2. Accounts

You need an account to use the Service. You agree to:

  • give accurate, current and complete information;
  • keep your sign-in details secure and confidential;
  • tell us promptly at info@dmforge.io about any unauthorized use of your account;
  • take responsibility for all activity under your account.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that break these Terms (Section 11).

3. The plan, trials and billing

3.1 The plan

DMForge has one paid plan, with two ways to pay:

  • Monthly: $4.99 a month, renewing every month until you cancel.
  • Yearly: $49.99 a year, paid up front, renewing every year until you cancel.

Both include the same features and the same monthly allowances (Section 4). Prices and allowances are also shown on our Pricing page.

3.2 Trials

When you sign up, you choose how to start:

  • 14 days with a card (monthly). You add a payment card and get the full plan for 14 days at no charge. Unless you cancel before the 14 days end, your card is charged $4.99 when the trial ends, and every month after that until you cancel. We email you a reminder at least 7 days before the first charge. One trial per person and per payment card.
  • 14 days without a card. You get limited access for 14 days at no charge: the Combat Tracker, Creature Codex, DM's Journal and Table Tools without limit; the example content we set up in your account; 50 encounter generations, 50 rules questions and 10 saves of your own work. The forges are not included: campaign builds, Map Forge, hero forges and likeness repaints. The scene library is not included, only the example scenes. When the 14 days end, your account is frozen (Section 3.4) until you subscribe. Nothing is charged, because no card is on file.
  • The year, paid up front. The yearly plan has no trial. You are charged $49.99 straight away. You can ask for a full refund within 14 days (Section 5).

3.3 First-year offer for existing accounts

If your account existed before this update:

  • Your 14 days without a card start the first time you sign in after this update.
  • During those 14 days you may subscribe to the yearly plan for $39.99 for your first year. It then renews at the yearly price in effect at renewal ($49.99 today) until you cancel.
  • The offer ends when your 14 days end. If you subscribe later, standard prices apply.
  • The offer cannot be combined with other offers. The same refund rules apply as for the yearly plan (Section 5).

3.4 Frozen accounts

An account whose trial has ended without a subscription is frozen, not deleted:

  • You can still sign in and see what you made, but you cannot create, generate or save anything new.
  • Subscribing restores full access straight away, and the first payment is charged immediately.
  • We keep a frozen account until you ask us to delete it (Section 11.1).

3.5 Billing and payment

  • Payments are processed by our payment provider, Stripe, Inc. By subscribing, you authorize us and Stripe to charge your payment method for the plan you choose, any applicable taxes, and each renewal until you cancel.
  • Monthly subscriptions renew each month at the monthly price then in effect.
  • Yearly subscriptions renew each year at the yearly price then in effect. We email you a reminder before each yearly renewal.
  • If a payment fails, we may retry it and may limit your account until it is resolved (Section 11.2).

3.6 Cancelling

  • You can cancel at any time from your account: Account → Manage billing.
  • Card trial: cancel before the 14 days end and you are never charged.
  • Monthly: cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep the plan until the end of the month you have paid for.
  • Yearly: cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep the plan until the end of the year you have paid for, unless you ask for a refund within 14 days (Section 5).
  • You can switch between monthly and yearly from Manage billing. The switch takes effect at your next renewal.

3.7 Taxes

Prices are in US dollars. Any taxes that apply are shown at checkout.

3.8 Price changes

We may change the price of the plan. We will give you at least 30 days' notice by email before a new price applies to you. A price change never applies to a period you have already paid for; it applies from your next renewal. If you do not agree to the new price, you can cancel before it takes effect.

4. Monthly allowances and fair use

The plan includes these allowances each month:

  • 5 campaign builds;
  • 10 maps;
  • 8 hero forges (a hero's story, likeness and kit, together);
  • 4 likeness repaints;
  • 200 encounter generations;
  • 300 rules questions;
  • 200 saves of your own work.

The following have no monthly count:

  • the Combat Tracker, Creature Codex, Scenes, DM's Journal, Table Tools and Parties;
  • kit suggestions.

How allowances work:

  • Allowances reset each month on your billing date, including on the yearly plan. Unused allowances do not carry over.
  • The trial without a card has the allowances in Section 3.2, for the whole 14 days.
  • We may change allowances under Section 3.8, with the same notice.
  • To protect the Service, we may limit or block automated, scripted or abusive use, even within an allowance (Section 6).

5. Refunds

Our Refund Policy is part of these Terms. In short:

  • Card trial: cancel before the 14 days end and you are never charged.
  • Monthly: no refunds for part of a month. Cancel any time and keep the plan to the end of the month you have paid for.
  • Yearly (including the first-year offer): a full refund if you ask within 14 days of a yearly charge, including a renewal. After 14 days, yearly payments are not refundable, and you keep the plan to the end of the year.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • break any law or infringe anyone's rights, including intellectual property and privacy rights;
  • create, store or share content that is illegal, harassing, threatening, defamatory or hateful, or that exploits minors;
  • create sexual content involving minors, sexual content about real people without their consent, or content depicting non-consensual acts;
  • try to gain unauthorized access to other accounts or to our systems or anyone else's;
  • reverse engineer, decompile or extract the Service's source code, except where the law expressly allows it;
  • access the Service with automated means (bots, scrapers, scripts) outside features we provide for that purpose;
  • resell, sublicense or commercially redistribute access to the Service. This does not limit your use of your own outputs (Section 7.2);
  • train or build competing machine-learning models or datasets with the Service or its content;
  • interfere with, disrupt or overload the Service.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that break this section. Depending on how serious the breach is, we may do so with or without notice.

7. Intellectual property

7.1 Your content

"Your Content" means anything you type, upload or submit to the Service: campaign notes, character names, world details, prompts, and any text or files you provide.

  • You keep all ownership of Your Content.
  • You give DMForge a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, process, transmit, display and use Your Content only to operate, provide, secure, improve and support the Service for you.
  • This license ends when you delete the content or your account. The exceptions are backups, legal compliance, and content you have shared with other users, such as a campaign you invited your players to.

7.2 What the forges make for you

"Your Outputs" means what the Service creates specifically from your inputs: campaigns from the Campaign Builder, maps from Map Forge, heroes from the hero forge (story, likeness and kit), and encounters from the Encounter Generator.

  • You own Your Outputs, to the extent the law allows. You may use them for any lawful purpose, including running paid sessions or publishing campaign material.
  • We make no promise that Your Outputs are unique or protected by copyright.
  • You are responsible for making sure your inputs, and how you use Your Outputs, don't infringe anyone else's rights.

7.3 DMForge library content

The Service includes content that DMForge created, curated and added for all users ("Library Content"):

  • the Creature Codex: its monsters and named NPCs, their descriptions, details and lore, and their artwork;
  • the artwork for every creature, scene, map and hero we provide;
  • the rules library behind the Rules Translator;
  • the scene library;
  • the tables behind Table Tools;
  • the example content we set up in each account.

While your account is active, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Library Content inside the Service for your own campaigns, personal or professional.

You may not:

  • extract, scrape, export in bulk or copy Library Content for use outside the Service;
  • redistribute, resell, sublicense or publish Library Content, including the artwork and the Codex NPCs;
  • use Library Content to train or build machine-learning models, datasets or competing services;
  • remove attribution or notices;
  • claim Library Content as your own work.

We reserve all rights not expressly granted.

7.4 The DMForge platform

DMForge owns the Service and everything that runs it:

  • the website, apps, code, design and interfaces;
  • the DMForge name, logo and brand;
  • the software, templates, prompts and system design;
  • Library Content;
  • anonymized, aggregated usage data.

These Terms give you no license to any of it beyond what you need to use the Service as intended.

7.5 Open-licensed game content

  • Some rules text and creature statistics in the Service come from open-licensed works:
    • the Dungeons & Dragons System Reference Documents 5.1 and 5.2 by Wizards of the Coast LLC, under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License;
    • works by Kobold Press and EN Publishing, under the Open Game License 1.0a and the ORC License.
  • The full credits and licenses are on our Credits & licences page. Those licenses govern that content.
  • DMForge is an independent product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Wizards of the Coast LLC. "Dungeons & Dragons" and "D&D" are trademarks of Wizards of the Coast LLC, used here only to describe compatibility.

7.6 Feedback

If you send us feedback or ideas, you give us a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to use them to improve the Service, without payment or attribution.

8. How the Service uses third-party models

Some features use third-party AI services to produce Your Outputs.

  • Outputs can contain mistakes. Check anything important, such as rules, against the official rulebooks.
  • Your inputs are processed by these providers to produce your results.
  • We do not use Your Content to train AI models without your consent.

9. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and share information.

10. Availability and changes to the Service

  • We work to keep the Service available, but we don't promise uninterrupted or error-free access. It may be unavailable during maintenance, updates, provider outages, or events beyond our control.
  • We may change, suspend or discontinue features, with reasonable notice for material changes that affect paying subscribers.
  • If we discontinue the paid plan entirely, we will give at least 30 days' notice and a pro-rated refund for any prepaid period you have not used.

11. Closing and terminating accounts

11.1 By you

  • You can cancel your subscription at any time (Section 3.6).
  • To close your account and have it deleted, email info@dmforge.io from your account email.
  • Closing your account does not entitle you to a refund except as set out in Section 5 and the Refund Policy.

11.2 By us

We may suspend or terminate your account if:

  • you break these Terms;
  • a payment fails and is not resolved within a reasonable time;
  • the law requires it;
  • we discontinue the Service.

If we terminate for a reason other than a breach of these Terms, we will give reasonable notice and a pro-rated refund of any prepaid period you have not used.

11.3 Your content after an account is closed

  • A frozen account (Section 3.4) is not closed. We keep it until you ask us to delete it.
  • Before you close your account, you can ask us for a copy of your content: email info@dmforge.io while the account is open.
  • After an account is closed, we can't restore its content, and we are not responsible for keeping it.
  • Your personal information is covered by the Privacy Policy.

12. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE, YOUR OUTPUTS AND LIBRARY CONTENT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. THIS INCLUDES IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY AND UNINTERRUPTED AVAILABILITY. IN PARTICULAR, WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT:

  • THE SERVICE WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS;
  • OUTPUTS OR LIBRARY CONTENT WILL BE ACCURATE, BALANCED, COMPLETE OR ERROR-FREE;
  • THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, TIMELY OR ERROR-FREE;
  • DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED.

13. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS:

  • DMFORGE AND ITS OWNERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS AND AFFILIATES ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE SERVICE.
  • DMFORGE'S TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID DMFORGE IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED US DOLLARS ($100).

Some places do not allow certain damages to be excluded or limited. There, our liability is limited to the maximum extent the law allows.

14. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless DMForge and its owners, employees, agents and affiliates against claims, damages, liabilities, costs and expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising from:

  • Your Content, or your use of Your Outputs or Library Content;
  • your breach of these Terms or of any law;
  • your infringement of anyone's intellectual property, privacy or other rights.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. For material changes:

  • we update the "Last updated" date;
  • if the change materially affects paying subscribers, we email you at least 30 days before it takes effect.

If you keep using the Service after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms. If you don't agree, cancel your subscription and close your account before the change takes effect.

16. Governing law and disputes

  • Governing law: these Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
  • Talk to us first: before filing a formal claim, please contact us at info@dmforge.io so we can try to resolve the issue informally.
  • Courts: any legal action arising from these Terms must be brought in the state or federal courts located in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and you consent to their jurisdiction.

17. General

  • Severability: if a court finds part of these Terms unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
  • Entire agreement: these Terms, the Privacy Policy and the Refund Policy are the entire agreement between you and DMForge about the Service.
  • No waiver: if we don't enforce a provision, that doesn't waive our right to enforce it later.
  • Assignment: you may not assign these Terms without our written consent. We may assign them as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
  • Force majeure: neither of us is liable for failures caused by events beyond reasonable control, such as natural disasters, war, government action or third-party service outages.
